ADMEC welcomes all the students and participants at ADMEC’s Annual Designing Competition 2011 (ADC). We are glad to organize this Designing competition at such a Grand Level, though we have earlier organized many such types of Competitions but not at this Level. This is the lifetime achievement for students to hone their skills. Everything will change when you get down to work, the world is a stage and you are the Directors so get going and showcase your glory that is within you. ADMEC has always wanted it and shall guide you through to the helms of glory and creative Endeavour. We need full cooperation and support of all the Students, Faculty and staff members in organizing this competition.

Who can Enter in this Design Competition?

Students having Designing knowledge, creativity skills, good command over Web, Graphics, Post-production, and Animation applications such as (Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw, Flash, After Effects, FCP, 3Ds Max, Maya etc) are eligible to participate. Participation in this design competition is open for only ADMEC Students.

How to Enter in this Design Competition?

Individuals who wish to enter the Design Competition must register themselves. To register students are advised to meet the Lab-in-charge or at Reception.

What Design Projects are Desired?

Projects to be created by the authorized teams on their respective topics are as following:

Posters, Flash Intro/ Flash Presentation, After Effects Intro, 3D Animation Short Films, Websites using XHTML, CSS, DHTML, PHP, MySQL, or CMS etc.

Topics for the Design Projects

Topic 1: Natural Disaster “Tsunami”

Man Proposes God Disposes – why not take measures?

The 1st and foremost topic for the competition is related to the environment, where the students will be required to browse through the natural calamities that happen due to misuse of the natural resources given to us through creator. Yet the mankind has not respected it and in consequence a situation such as “Tsunami” takes place.

Through audio/video short films, its effects through flash presentation and the measures to prevent this disaster through posters.

Topic 2: Commonwealth Games in India

The 2010 Common wealth games was one of the largest multi-sport event. The entire official machinery was working round the clock in full swing to ensure smooth and uninterrupted games. The ultra modern facility was being provided at all the venues / stadium where the games had taken place. The CWG is not just a game show, but reflects the competitiveness and fighting spirits of the participants and also the culture and social behavior of the participants and also the culture and social behavior of the participating nations. Students are required to prepare attractive flash presentations, posters, Audio/video presentation/ depicting the event, opening and closing ceremony and can share their experience through written presentation.

Topic 3: Global Warming

In simple terms Global warming is the Gradual increase in the earth’s surface temperature. The overpopulation of Earth and the increasing use of technologies are only destructive to the limited natural resources that Earth holds. Human activities are considered one of the main causes of global warming. Besides greenhouse gases, forest destruction and population are two other causes of global warming. The impact of global warming is far greater than just increasing temperatures. Global warming affects everyone, and everyone can play an important role in stopping it.

Submission Format:

1. First Page

It is imperative that the following information be included on the title slides:

  • Title of project
  • Team members names
  • Team members roles
  • Permanent addresses and telephone numbers
  • Current e-mail address
  • Faculty advisor’s
  • Students’ signatures and date
  • Faculty advisor’s signature and date

All of the above information is required, and furthermore, if missing, could result in teams not being able to participate.

2. Second Page

The second page shall contain:
a. The project title
b. An abstract of the project report with a length not to exceed 250 words (do not include literature citations or references to tables, figures, or equations in the abstract)
c. Acknowledgements which must include specific contributions of all other individuals, organizations and/or companies that have made any supportive contributions to the project such as drafting, typing, prototype construction, photo or art work, financial support, etc.

Evaluation Schedule

There will be different levels of evaluation. Evaluators at all levels will judge the design project reports, not only for content, but also for compliance with the contest rules.

B. Effective Use of Graphics, Illustrations, Video, etc.
C. Neatness, Accuracy, and Style
D. Project

The Student Design Competition consists of three rounds, each focusing on a different modality for communicating your ideas and solution at an academic conference. Your team will be asked to prepare a written presentation, poster/logo/ and a short Flash presentation.

Ten-minute presentation in short talk format, to be presented at conference, must include:

  • The design process that was followed
  • A concise description of the proposed solution
  • Reference to design principles and theory where appropriate
  • Acknowledgement of partial or incomplete solutions

Student Teams

There will be 6 teams (7 Students/team) under the supervision of Faculty Member acting as a guide. From each team a team leader will be selected which will remain continuously in touch with the assigned Faculty. Each team will be given 2days and specified time per week to prepare for the competition. During the preparatory activities the participating students are expected to acquire and consolidate skills of searching, classifying, categorizing and summarizing information. Students are also expected to experience peer-to-peer discussions and team work while completing their contribution to the competition.

Finally ADMEC’s most awaited event has begun from 2nd December 2011. We have disclosed the team names and team leaders of the respective teams. All the students are advised to meet their assigned teacher for any sought of queries / doubts.

Judgment

The deadline for project submissions has been decided that is 26th Dec 2011.The submitted designs will be judged by a panel of practicing design professionals. The Final winning team will be given prizes and their names and work will be uploaded at ADMEC’s Website.
